Multisystemic Therapy (MST)

Multisystemic Therapy (MST) is a family- and community-focused approach designed to keep youth safely at home, offering an alternative to juvenile incarceration. MST helps prevent youth from being placed outside their homes due to various challenges, such as residential treatment facility placements, homelessness, state custody, or detention.

A key goal of MST is to empower caregivers with the skills and resources needed to address the challenges of raising youth with difficult behaviors, including aggression, substance abuse, negative peer influence, increased family conflict, and academic struggles. MST also supports families dealing with involvement in the Juvenile Justice System (JJS) or Children Youth and Families Department (CYFD).

MST therapists work directly in the home, school, and community, and are available 24/7 to provide caregivers with the tools they need to help their children. With small caseloads, therapists offer services at times that are convenient for the family, and the average treatment lasts 3 to 5 months.

MST is committed to creating positive change, understanding that every system involved in a youth’s life plays a critical role in their development. By addressing each of these systems, MST aims to improve the quality of life for both youth and their families.
